On Wednesday, June 30 SAN members had a special treat at the annual SAN Symposium. They welcomed artist Pamela Paulsrud to discuss her art and latest project, along with speakers from CAR and the Loop Alliance.
ARTIST PAMELA PAULSRUD
Pamela Paulsrud is an accomplished artist who works with handmade paper and mark-making techniques. She also began an on-going interactive program called “Tree Whisperers” which encourages people to add to the ever-growing forest of handmade paper leaves with each contributors words and drawing on the leaf. The exhibit has been shown at the Field Museum, Newberry Library and other locations throughout Chicago.
Ms. Paulsud is currently curating an exhibit at the Columbia Collage Center for Books and Paper, which features works by Marilyn Sward through August 21, 2010.
CHICAGO ARTISTS RESOURCE WEBSITE
The SAN Symposium also had an update on the Chicago Artists Resource website and how artists can us the site to promote their work or to find resources. The site is burgeoning with information, and is a great way to keep up with what is happening in the art community. The site is organized by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.
POP-UP ART GALLERIES IN THE LOOP
We also got the scoop on the Pop Up art galleries in the Loop that have been in the news lately. Michael from the Chicago Loop Alliance discussed the details about the galleries, how to apply and what the agreements entail. The first Thursdays are open houses for the galleries and might be a good time to see what it is all about. Much of the information about the program can be found on their website.
